Rails Best Practices

Description:

We are a small but financially stable and steadily growing company located in southern California. Our main focus is to develop and maintain three sites devoted to action sports. We are currently looking to hire a full-time, dedicated back-end developer for our websites. This developer will work in tandem with a front-end developer that we are also currently in the process of hiring. Developer should be located in a country with competitive development rates.

Required skills:

- Expert knowledge in Ruby on Rails 2 & 3, Ruby 1.8 & 1.9, MySQL database design, XML-based web services, Nginx + Passenger, HTML, server-side AJAX
- Ability to optimize both code and database schema for speed
- Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks
- Solid understanding of caching strategies, including Memcached
- Attention to detail and code clarity
- Good communication skills in the English language
- Resourceful and able to solve problems independently

Desired skills:

- Prior experience with Amazon S3, content delivery networks, Ubuntu/Debian, Bash scripting, PHP, PHP frameworks, Git
- Understanding of CSS, Javascript, and Javascript libraries
- Experience with large or technically complicated websites
- Server side support for WebSockets (nodejs, Python, PHP, etc.)
